John was born and raised in Butte, Montana. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Carroll College in Helena, Montana and his law degree from the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana. Upon completion of law school in 1985, he had the privilege of clerking for Justice John C. Sheehy at the Montana Supreme Court for one year before returning to Butte to begin his practice with Poore, Roth & Robinson, P.C. He has been a shareholder with the Firm since 1991 and has served as President of the Firm since 2008.
He is admitted to practice law in all state and federal district and appellate courts in the State of Montana. He is also admitted to practice before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
John has a diverse civil defense practice with emphasis on environmental, real property and mining issues. His experience includes work on multiple CERCLA and CECRA sites within Montana, including the negotiation and drafting of complex environmental risk allocation agreements. His experience also includes the defense of a number of multi-party environmental property damage and toxic tort claims.
John graduated maxima cum laude from Carroll College in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science. He received his Juris Doctorate with Honors from the University of Montana School of Law in 1985.
